Announcing the Social Music App Challenge Winner

September 30, 2011

In June we issued a challenge to the developers in The Echo Nest developer community to build the next generation of social music applications.  Although music is probably the most social entertainment medium, truly social music applications are still in their infancy. Our goal with the Social Music App Challenge was to energize developers to create to more social music apps.

We received an incredible number of entries to the challenge by developers from all over the world. The creativity represented in the entries is truly astounding. A panel of judges evaluated each entry based upon its quality, innovation, social features, nestiness and user experience.  Although it was difficult considering the high quality of the submissions the judges have selected a winner.

And the winner is …

The winner of the first ever Social Music App Challenge is Plus Music created by Peter Watts.  Plus Music creates a seamless listening experience for you while you browse the web.  It uses the Echo Nest API to connect a you with music and rich contextual data about any artist as you encounter them.  Plus Music is already receiving rave reviews from sites like Techcrunch, Mashable and Evolver.fm

Congratulations to Peter for winning the coveted Echo Nest Sweatsedo (and $10,000 too).  Echo Nest representative Shane Tobin tracked Peter down yesterday and made a visit to award him his prize.
